Inspired by Queensland Writers Centre's successful Writing Friday program, these sessions follow the Pomodoro Technique of 25-minute blocks and 5-minute breaks. Every third 'Pomodoro', we take a 15-minute break to relax and recharge. The idea behind the method is to train the mind into working effectively to reach smaller targets, improving the overall writing time and productivity.

The exhibition also introduces a new collaborative project with poet Nathan Shepherdson, titled keyhole sonatas (6064), which will screen in Gallery 3 and merges Shepherdson’s poetry with Carchesio’s musical compositions.A poetry and sound performance will be announced during the exhibition period, extending the dialogue between image, word and sound that defines Carchesio’s practice.

Life Drawing Sessions 2026

These untutored sessions follow a classical life drawing class structure of short and longer poses by a nude life model. Your medium is your choice in these classes, including watercolours, acrylics, graphite, and charcoal; bring along whatever materials you enjoy working with and get your hand flowing with the practice of capturing form. Easels, drawing donkey, and boards are supplied, but artists must supply all other materials. Photography and all digital drawing devices such as iPads are not permitted during life classes with nude models at the RQAS. A showcase of recent experimental (and largely) 3D films by Johann Lurf, Victor Van Rossem, and Blake Williams that push against the concept of 3D realism seen in more narrative films, to instead explore the possibility of spatiality, contradictory vision, and histories of seeing. (We have to concede Lurf’s latest film Forever…Forever is two-dimensional, but we could not resist the chance to present his latest work on a cinema screen and in the context of his other recent works, and so erred on opportunism over rigor.) Twelve Tales Told – Johann Lurf (2014, 4m) Johann Lurf’s maximalist, 35mm barrage of Hollywood studio logos, transforms the iconic corporate prelude to the big production-to-come into a sustained, stuttering spectacle in which fractured and fantastical worlds collide into a bombastic anti-climax. Forever…Forever – Johann Lurf (2025, 21m) Over the course of twenty-two months, Johann Lurf fixed the gaze of a specially developed 65mm camera on a single fragment of the world: the Ottenstein Reservoir. What begins as a quiet observation of nature gradually transforms into a monumental image of cosmic motion. At first, the lake appears familiar – a place suspended between sky and water. But as the exposures grow longer, the dimensions themselves shift: stars begin to draw delicate lines, the sun inscribes bright arcs, the moon traces soft, almost calligraphic diagonals. The water surface becomes a perfect mirror that folds sky and landscape symmetrically into one another – above and below, light and shadow, becoming and fading. Revolving Rounds – Christina Jauernik and Johann Lurf (2024, 11m) Revolving Rounds is a cyclical film in both form and content. Shot at an agricultural field on the outskirts of Vienna, Johann Lurf and Christina Jauernik’s 3D short begins as it ends, tracking a planimetric path alongside three greenhouses as the early morning sun beams across the surrounding lands. Cavalcade – Johann Lurf (2019, 5m) Lurf designed and constructed a 150cm-diameter water-wheel, with one face divided into various patterned circles of varying shapes and colour. It was then fixed in place in a stream; we observe the wheel in rest, motion and rest again from a single vantage-point, as it is illuminated by strobe-lights synchronised with 35mm cameras. Clockwise and anti-clockwise movement disorientingly, magically interweave. Toward a Fundamental Theory of Physics – Victor Van Rossem (2025, 13m) Shot on 16mm film using a handcrafted Time-Slice camera with 293 lenses—a modern reinterpretation of the original device built by Tim Macmillan in the early 1980s—this experimental (3D) short offers a unique, tactile exploration of time and light as the raw materials and fundamental paradoxes of cinema. Laberint Sequences – Blake Williams (2023, 20m) Shot in and around the Laberint d’Horta in Barcelona, the film charts several journeys into the garden in search of its centre, where a statue of Eros waits. As the film navigates the maze’s false pathways, its recursive structure begins to crack, and a mysterious underworld floods its gates. Felt – Blake Williams (2025, 15m) A man sees mountains and sets out to recreate them. During a traverse across the Western United States, we observe familiar sites in a new light, and the world gets lost in the fold. Unrated 15+ and presented in partnership with the I nstitute of Modern Art. With thanks to Johann Lurf, Victor Van Rossem, Blake Williams, and sixpackfilm. This is a ticketed screening with an option for free attendance. Paid tickets are available through New Farm Cinema’s counter or website here. Her second novel, Sunbirds, was set in wartime Java during World War II and was shortlisted for the Barbara Jefferis Award. Mirandi's debut novella, The Fish Girl, was also shortlisted for the Stella Prize and the Queensland Literary Award – Fiction Book Award. Her work has appeared in Best Australian Stories, Meanjin, Review of Australian Fiction, Griffith Review and Best Summer Stories. Intriguing and beautifully written, this dazzling novel spanning centuries and generations unravels the secrets and memories of one Irish-Chinese family to explore what it means to belong – to place, to ancestors, to ourselves. We sing a range of pop, soul and gospel songs that you'll love to sing and that our audiences will love to hear. Our secret weapon lies in the way we do things - our rehearsals are judgement-free places where you can sing in safety regardless of experience or ability. o So, Sunnybank - let's get singing! New members from 18 upwards are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is FREE so you can check us out without obligation. Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers - we have quite a few mums and daughters/mums and sons/dads and daughters/sets of sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together! Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us but the majority have little or none. Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there are no committees and no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week. The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, Motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (which means without instruments). We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul. But be warned - we play as hard as we sing! THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE Soul Song Brisbane - Sunnybank, directed by Rebecca Cassidy, rehearses on Tuesday mornings. We start singing at 9.30am but we are set up and ready to go from 9am so you are welcome to come in early to say hi and get set up and settled in. Rehearsals go through until 11.30am. We’ll have a short break mid-rehearsal so please bring a mug and your choice of tea of coffee, we’ll supply the hot water, milk & sugar. We wander across the car park to the Sunnybank Community & Sports Club after rehearsal for a casual lunch and some social time too! Rehearsals are primarily about working on repertoire and building vocal technique but we try to mix things up each week to keep them interesting and we also work a lot in smaller sections to help songs progress faster. Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include online rehearsals, rehearsals recordings, audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more.

New members from 18 upwards are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is FREE so you can check us out without obligation. Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers - we have quite a few mums and daughters/mums, sons/dads, daughters/sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together! Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us but the majority have little or none. Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there are no committees and no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week. The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, Motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (without instruments). We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul. But be warned - we play as hard as we sing! THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE Soul Song Brisbane - Bulimba/Hybrid Online, directed by Jaq Larsen, rehearses on Thursday mornings. We start singing at 9.30am but we are set up and ready to go from 9am so you are welcome to come in early to say hi and get set up and settled in. You can even make yourself a cuppa while you're waiting (BYO mug and tea or coffee - we provide hot water, sugar and milk). Rehearsals go through until 11.30am. We usually wander down to Lindas after rehearsal for a casual lunch and some social time too! Rehearsals are primarily about working on repertoire and building vocal technique but we try to mix things up each week to keep them interesting and we also work a lot in smaller sections to help songs progress faster. Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include online rehearsals, rehearsals recordings, audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more.

Opening event: Friday 5pm - 9pm (ticketed event, $15). Exhibition continues: Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 10am-2pm. Jane Thompson is a professional artist based in Brisbane/Meanjin who paints to express and connect with the dualistic nature of the every-day-visible and the felt-but-not-seen. Thompson approaches the canvas with a curious reverence for the unannounced, resulting in a spirited surrender to the way in which she uses her materials. Watered-down acrylics are invited to splash and wander rebelliously across the canvas, while oil sticks, graphite and thin lines of paint are applied in intuitive loops and iterations, resulting in abstracted bursts of energy. Her work transpires a felt desire to reconnect and nurture a relationship with the wild and natural, carrying the subtle impressions of a dreamer. Thompson also implements a daily writing practice to inspire and elevate the themes of her paintings. Her poetic expressions and accounts (written under the alias Veda Laferne and Jane) are as essential as the artworks themselves, where a resonant relationship can be felt between the two.

No Seasons is a bold new experimental work by disabled transgender artist Oliver Ayres. After having 22 eggs frozen as a teenager before his transition, the artist – alongside his family and partner – tackles the thorny questions that arise ten years on, as he enters his thirties and begins to question the pathways to fatherhood. An audio-visual spectacle, each audience member can choose the story they would like to listen to from three headphone options: ‘I am a parent’, ‘I am not, but I might be’, and ‘I am not and I never will be’. Tactile tours: all performances of No Seasons will hold a tactile tour 45 minutes before performance start time. The tactile tour will be held inside the performance venue and will be hosted by Oliver. During this time he will describe the visual elements of the show and the structure of the performance as well as inviting audience members to touch the set and props. The Rubens are heading back on the road for their sixth studio album, Group Therapy, heading to 25+ cities across Australia in 2026/27. It's the sound of a band going full circle. After experimenting with synths and autotune on 2024's SODA, Group Therapy sees The Rubens return to their roots - guitar-driven, recorded live in the room, and made with a mindset of getting it right the first time rather than fixing it later. Produced once again by Konstantin Kersting (Spacey Jane, DMAs, Genesis Owusu), this time working alongside the band in person at their Camden studio, it's their most authentic record in years. The album takes its name, in part, from lead singer Sam Margin's own journey through sobriety and therapy during the making of the record - and the idea that music, at its best, is a shared experience. This workshop welcomes both newcomers and artists returning for a second or third time. Whether you are building foundations or refining skills you already possess, the focus remains the same: portraiture drawing that is grounded in clear seeing, rather than photographic imitation. This course follows the same format as Kay's workshop Fundamental Structure of the Human Head. At its core, the course treats the essential elements of all drawing—size, scale, shape, tonal relationships and spatial organisation—as equally vital. You will practise selecting, organising and simplifying so that accurate, eloquent observation becomes second nature. This disciplined seeing is the necessary groundwork for any expressive interpretation of the human face but can equally be applied to subjects other than portraiture. Throughout the five weeks, Dr Kane will teach these fundamentals to the group while also giving regular one-to-one feedback, so every participant—whether first-time or returning—receives personal guidance tailored to their stage of development. Returning artists often discover that revisiting the same principles with individual attention reveals new layers of understanding and opens fresh possibilities for expression. New students gain a solid, structured pathway into portraiture. In both cases the aim is the same: to experience the living connection between structural understanding and expressive interpretation of the human visage. We will meet at the tables in the picture shown above which are located near the big waterfall. I have some games but feel free to bring games of your own. However if you're not a gamer and would rather talk to the other attendees then feel free to do so. This is a very easy going casual event. If are having trouble finding a car park you can park in Queen Street Malls parks, it's a short walk away from the Parklands. Or take the train as the station is right next to the park. What we will do. After we've gotten to know one another we usually play some easy fun party games for a few hours. There are undercover areas in case of bad weather but if the weather is severe enough then we will instead play games at the Vault Games Brisbane store in the Queen Street Mall which is about a 10 minute walk away. Use Google Maps if you're unfamiliar with the area. If this does happen then I'll leave a comment in the events comment section on the day of the event. If you want to donate to the group to help cover Meetup costs you can but it's optional so you don't have to pay to attend any events. The Brisbane Vintage Guitar Show comes to Superordinary on Saturday 31 October 2026. After two years at The Polish Club in Milton, Brisbane's celebration of vintage guitars and amplifiers moves into the warehouse for one full day. Collectors, players and dealers come together to buy, sell and trade, or just mingle among vintage instruments, amplifiers and pedals. The focus is vintage American gear, with a few select exceptions. Through the day there are workshops and master classes, guest speakers sharing what they know, and instrument appraisals. Bringing gear to sell? Non-stall holders can bring up to two instruments. One is included with general admission, and the second needs a registration fee. All sales are cashless, private transactions between vendor and buyer. Stall holders and exhibitors can enquire through the show's Participate page. At its essence, Nature is a stunning collage of nature footage at its most classically sublime: we see images of volcanic eruptions, sweeping deserts, swirling floods, waves of earthquakes, and collapsing icebergs and glaciers. Presented in black and white, mostly sourced from found footage, the immediate pleasure of Nature is the grandeur of these images. In the hands of Armenian legend Artavazd Peleshian—a contemporary of Andrei Tarkovsky and Sergei Parajanov, but whose innovations took him away from his peer’s experiments in staging and instead back to abandoned editing possibilities of Soviet montage—it becomes something else. His first film in nearly thirty years, Peleshian uses Nature to expand on his concept of “Montage-at-a-Distance” and its structural use of repetition to suggest patterns of thought. Friends of Toowong Cemetery run 11 different guided walking tours each year. Guided tours are free but donations are appreciated to help us continue our work. Tours are on the first Sunday of each month (February to December) from 10:30am to 12:00. There's no need to book, just meet under the flagpole in Canon Garland Place at the Toowong Cemetery. Parking is available inside the cemetery. Our next tour is on Sunday 1 November 2026. The tour is limited to 20 people. Wear enclosed shoes, a hat and sunscreen or bring an umbrella, and don't forget a bottle of water. Some tours include steep hills and a walking stick or walking poles may be helpful. The Museum may open after our guided tours if volunteers are available. The Toowong Cemetery Museum is the former Sexton's office. The Museum has an extensive display of photographs and artefacts.

Pat Hoffie: Artefacts from a Bigger Picture explores the gulfs between human connection and social alienation. Investigating the invisible currents that either bind us together or keep us fundamentally apart, Hoffie raises questions about the impact of our environments on collective empathy. Each monotype is a unique record of this gulf created through ink and paper, with painted and drawn interventions extending the hand printed surface. Intimate in scale, the works draw immense global circumstances into close proximity with the viewer. Images capturing the raw interdependence of people brought into close, visceral proximity sit alongside images reflecting the distance, isolation and mutual indifference of human interaction in modern public spaces. Across the body of work, dense, gestural passages sit in exchange with areas that feel cool and detached. Figures gather as clusters of inky marks, contained or divided by clean architectural lines. By bringing these contrasting realities together, Artefacts from a Bigger Picture shifts our attention beyond the immediate frame of each work to question the nature of human interaction and interdependence. Drawing on printmaking’s history as a form of political address, Hoffie asks whether an image can arrest our attention for long enough to consider our own place.

Finishing and Professionalism for Artwork Entered into RQAS Exhibitions When entering artwork into RQAS exhibitions, the artworks need to be presented and finished in a professional manner. This helps the gallery to create a cohesive exhibition with a professional look, as well as ensuring the hanging process is easy and safe for our staff and volunteers. PLEASE REFER TO THE EXHIBITION TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR MINIMUM FRAMING REQUIREMENTS. Artworks must be clean, dry and professionally finished before being delivered to the gallery. This includes cleaning the glass and wiping off any dust that may have accumulated while in storage, making sure the matt is not marked and frame is not damaged To download guidelines and view images please click here Painted Edges & Framed Works If works on stretched canvas are not framed the edges of the canvas must be cleanly finished. Artists may choose to paint the edge a single colour such as grey or a colour that complements the artwork, see Figure 1, or you may complete the artwork in the “round” as in Figure 2. In the “round” means to extend the painting around the edge of the canvas. Essentially, the edges should not have random marks, such as fingerprints or paint drips. D Rings Framed artworks and works on canvas (or otherwise mounted) must be ready to hang on the wall using medium or large sized “D” rings placed approximately 5-10cm from the top of the frame. Attach hooks facing upwards and on the outside of the canvas frame, as pictured in Figure 3. Wire or string is not required. However, if you would like to add wire or string, please see Figure 3. As you can see the wire is further down the canvas and is not attached to the top “D” ring. Squaring Up To determine if a rectangular or square canvas is “square” or “squared up”, measure the diagonal of the canvas/artwork, and it should be the same length both ways. Please refer to Figure 4. Foxing & Mould Foxing is an age-related process of deterioration that causes spots and browning and can appear as brown, yellow, or red stains on the paper or canvas. If it appears on an artwork mat, the work must be reframed with a new mat. If it appears on the canvas or paper, it must be treated and repainted, so it is not visible. Artwork Labels Clearly mark the artist’s name, contact details, the title of work, and price on an artwork label, to be placed on the back of the work. We need this information to easily identify your artwork before the exhibition labels (didactics) and catalogue are printed for the exhibition. Some artists choose to write this information on the back of the frame/canvas directly. You may also choose to include this on a removable/temporary label, or on a permanent label or “Certificate of Authenticity”. ENTRIES ARE NOW CLOSED.

Her work has taken her from the glamour of Las Vegas to the back streets of Kings Cross, from rigorous training in Japan to live art festivals in New York. With Lisa Fa’alafi, Leah is Co-Director of intersectional theatre disrupters Polytoxic, creating protest party works underpinned by diversity and collaboration. Leah’s triptych of solo works interrogating gender and identity have received critical acclaim. Ursula Martinez is a London based theatre maker, performer and director. After 20 years creating her own work, and performing in prestigious venues and Festivals around the world including Barbican (London) Sydney Opera House, and La Fondacion Cartier (Paris), Martinez naturally fell into directing. She has directed several internationally acclaimed productions including Lucy McCormick’s smash-hit shows Triple Threat and Post Popular, and Laura Murphy’s multi Award-winning A Spectacle of Herself. She recently co-directed Casting Lear with Spanish artist Andrea Jimenez. The production won Spain’s highest theatre Award; a Premio Max, for Best Show. Martinez also has an Olivier Award (2004) for C’est Barbican, a co-creation with London’s pioneering performance collective Duckie, and is an original cast member of the Olivier Award-winning La Clique. Kenneth has worked professionally in jewellery, video, graphic, costume, set and sound design with work featured in festivals and exhibitions nationally and internationally. A former Creative Industries academic for 20 years, he was also co-producer/presenter of the arts program, Curved Radio for Sydney’s 2SER and EastSide Radio FM for 10 years. His most recent collaborations with Leah Shelton have been on her solo works, Terror Australis, On Heat and BATSHIT. Paper Echoes sees Rei returning to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, thirty-eight years after being born in Tabuk. Here, she revisits a landscape previously known to her only through photographs, documents, family stories and archival footage. Renowned for her meticulous hand-cut designs, Rei’s work investigates the intersections of memory, identity, and belonging through the versatile and delicate medium of paper. Through paper cutting, photography, video, scent and sound, Paper Echoes explores memory, inheritance and the connections between people and place. It asks how recognition can exist beyond conscious memory and how fragments of experience can reverberate across generations. Paper becomes both material and metaphor: a witness to lives recorded through passports, photographs, birth certificates and archives. Shaped by removal, preservation and chance encounters, the works consider what remains when memory is incomplete, and how inherited fragments can become part of a new, lived archive. Paper Echoes asks us what happens to experience as it passes from one person to another, what survives the processes of remembering and forgetting, and what fragments remain capable of reverberating decades later.

Sorcerers from Bohemia evokes the free-spirited world of the travelling circus performers, or saltimbanques, the subject of Pablo Picasso’s first major body of work in printmaking. La Suite des Saltimbanques is a series of 15 loosely related etchings and drypoints that mark a transitional moment in the young artist’s personal and artistic development. Created on the cusp of Picasso’s Blue and Rose periods, the works are intimately connected with his paintings and drawings of the same era, including the Gallery’s own La Belle Hollandaise of 1905. On moving to Paris in 1904, 22-year-old Picasso encountered a bohemian crowd of acrobats, jugglers and street performers, whom he sketched as they rehearsed and socialised together. His early depictions focus on the vulnerability and poverty of these itinerant figures, whereas later works pay homage to their strong social bonds and the freedom of their creative lives. Appearing individually and in groups, Picasso’s saltimbanques vary widely in age and fulfil a variety of roles, from clown and friend to mother and king. Ushering in a lifelong experimentation with printmaking, La Suite des Saltimbanques offers extraordinary insights into Picasso’s formative artistic concerns and the social milieu he inhabited at the time. In these sensitive and sympathetic portraits, he conveys the heft of a body, the texture of hair, a playful pose or a tender gesture with remarkable economy and elegance of line, ennobling figures who ordinarily existed on the fringes of society.

Towards a Collapsing World: German Expressionism

The early decades of the twentieth century witnessed an extraordinary moment in German art, as artists responded to a modern world in flux with works that engaged deeply with contemporary society, politics and culture. Towards a Collapsing World explores this period of significant cultural flourishing through a survey of works on paper by leading figures of German Expressionism. Rather than a single, unified approach, German Expressionism was characterised by a plurality of attitudes and styles, with artist groups such as Die Brücke (The Bridge) and Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) forming and dissolving in response to fluctuating ideologies. Common to these disparate voices was a shared belief in the power of art to effect social change. The woodcut print became an important vehicle within German Expressionism, reviving a rich medieval heritage. Its stark, simplified forms, expressed through bold, flat patterns and raw aesthetic intensity, conveyed the inner turmoil and social critique of these expressionist artists with impassioned urgency.

The Collection Online team have been busy photographing thousands of artworks as part of QAGOMA’s Digital Transformation Initiative. This makes the Collection available and accessible to people everywhere, in detail never seen before. With dedicated conservators, registrars, technologists and photographers, the project has provided the resources to delve deep into Collection Storage to uncover and care for artworks not displayed in decades. This exhibition represents a small sample of our teams’ favourite finds, the weird and whimsical, the cute and curious. We gratefully acknowledge the hundreds of donors who generously supported the QAGOMA Foundation’s Unlock the Collection campaign to digitise the Collection and make artworks more accessible and discoverable online including this diverse range of artworks, from small figures to small frogs. These are some of the artworks we have recently prepared for photography, and just some of the works which made us smile.

Presented alongside the Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company special exhibition (12 September 2026 – 18 April 2027), Where the Wild Things Are Made: Jim Henson’s Creature Shop celebrates the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Highlighting the diverse portfolio of expressive characters and creatures made by the Company for external productions, the selected films showcase the work of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and how it continues to shape the landscape of cinematic storytelling. An important facet of The Jim Henson Company, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is internationally renowned for creating pioneering techniques that bring extraordinary characters and stories to life. Formally established following the release of Labyrinth in 1986, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop continues to be an enduring creative hub where performance and craftsmanship is paired with experimentation and ground-breaking technical innovation to transform the imaginary into reality. QAGOMA acknowledges the generous assistance of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, Canberra; the Norwegian Film Institute, Oslo and the Revival House, Perth in providing materials for this program. Program curated by Victoria Wareham, Australian Cinémathèque with additional film note writing by Rebekah Brammer.

Animals have played a central part in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and spiritual beliefs for over 60,000 years. Native fauna form an integral part of relationships with Country, in community and are a foundation of economies, identity and sustainability. Over many millennia of co-existence animals have been central to survival as a food source; for First Nations people they are also absorbed into lore and culture as images of totemic power, and into the ancestral creation stories that link people, land and animals. Great and small is a celebration of these connections. Please note that the display will be closed to the public from 7-11 December for the Gallery to complete artwork rotation.

Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending. Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Discover Delvene’s powerful sculptural work made from materials gathered from Country - yungair/yungaire (freshwater reed), talwalpin (beach hibiscus cotton tree), and quampie shell. Come and be immersed in a space that celebrates care for land, sea and story. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Enjoy the latest display by Brisbane artist Priya Gore, at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre as part of the Community Art Wall. Priya Gore is a Brisbane-based artist. She finds that Australian rainforests offer the abundance of natural wonder. The bush walks and coastal hikes replenish the emptiness of the soul with a long-lasting creative energy. The artist's life revolves around the exploration of nature’s intricacies that are often hidden in the obvious. This ongoing display can be viewed from September to December: Tuesday to Friday, 9am-4pm and Saturday and Sunday, 9am-12pm. About the Community Art Wall: Located in the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre, the Community Art Wall is a small, ongoing display which aims to celebrate and promote environmental awareness through art by featuring work from local artists and community groups that reflect environmental themes such as sustainability, biodiversity and connection to nature.
