Speed Mating Night 2 (Magandjin, Brisbane) presented by MELT. n

Wed 28 Oct, 7:00 PM AEST, 47 Balaclava St., Woolloongabba, QLD, 4102
Created in collaboration with Melt Festival, a celebration of Queer arts, culture and community. Where connection is part of the experience, and a new encounter can lead somewhere unexpected. Step into a moment of curiosity and see where it takes you. You arrive thinking you’re in control. But not this time. Time slows when you meet someone new. A few minutes, a new face, a shared giggle - then the rhythm of the evening carries you around the room. You never quite know who you’ll meet, what little moment you might share, or where a conversation might take you. Because that’s what community can be: the connections that happen when you say yes to the opportunity to connect, be present, and see who you might meet. So go with it. Notice the glances. Savour the moments. Treasure every hello. Let the night unfold, one conversation and one little surprise at a time. From this moment to the next, keep discovering, connecting and celebrating together, sharing the shows, the stories, the dancing and all the Queer joy that makes Melt what it is. I’m so glad I met you. Introduction A vibrant speed mating event designed for connection. There are limited spots available, so seize the opportunity! Our goal for 2026 is simple: to continue creating a fun, loving, and inclusive third space where you can be challenged, find community, and build meaningful connections. If you’re new here, Third Rodeo’s name is inspired by the Third Place Theory, the idea that true, authentic connections are forged in a third environment outside of home and work. The word "Rodeo" comes from the phrase, "not my first rodeo," symbolising confidence. The more our community chooks attend our events, the more they feel comfortable in expressing their identity and greeting new people. So, saddle up and put yourself out there, you never know what fate or destiny has in store. Perhaps tonight is the night you were meant to meet someone special. Enjoy yourself. Event Details 7.00 PM - 11.00 PM 𓃗 Come join us on the evening of Wednesday, 21 October, at The Cave Inn, Woolloongabba. It is a casual, but charming atmosphere, privately booked out space for you to socialise among the lesbian/queer/trans community. Grab your bloody shiraz or lemon lime bitters from the bar and turn strangers into dearest companions. Event Breakdown We'll greet ya at the door, tick ya name off and give you a name card. 7.00 PM - 8.00PM ★ Name Game: You will be given a card with someone else's name on it. It is your mission to find this person through greeting new people and asking for their names. Note - once you ask for someone's name, you should exchange questions on the back. This creates chatter and encourages everyone to meet. The connections are boundless! Wₕₒ 𝓌ᵢₗₗ ᵧₒᵤ ₘₑₑₜ ₜₕᵢₛ ₜᵢₘₑ? 8.00PM - 9.00PM ★ Speed Mating: You can be expected to go on at least 5 friend dates. - Always introduce your name & pronouns - Questions are fun and silly! Nothing too serious here! 9.00PM - 11.00PM ★ More social gathering. ★ Call me cards: Keep in contact with each other. Write your details down on one of the 'Call me Cards' displayed around the venue. It's a lovely gesture, an old fashion trick that works like charm! Your lovely host: Anna (she/her). Magandjin based film photographer working my way towards a visual arts degree. Chronic sad gay music listener, consuming as much queer media as possible. Currently yearning for summer somewhere in Northern Italy. Always immersing myself in queer joy and making connections wherever I go. I take so much pride in our community, our history and our stories - queer was always here. Additional Information This is operating at a licensed venue. Please do not BYO. This event is designed for persons 18+. You will be exposed to loud chatter, background music and low level lighting. The venue is accessible with accessible friendly bathrooms and no stairs to enter or watch the stage. Accessibility specifics like low seating can be arranged via contacting The Cave Inn. There are a range of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian food options along with low and no alcohol beverage options to be purchased. Photography will be present, although, if you wish to not have your photograph taken, let us know. At our event, we are committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment for everyone. We do not tolerate any form of bullying or harassment. If you or someone else feels uncomfortable at any point, please do not hesitate to speak with our trained venue staff or the host of the evening. Rest assured, all reports will be handled discreetly and confidentially to ensure your safety and privacy. Your comfort and well-being are our top priorities. Third Rodeo Background Starting back in 2023! At Third Rodeo, we believe in creating a warm and inviting space for the Lesbian and Queer community to thrive. Our events are designed specifically for individuals in their 20s and up, providing a dedicated environment where you can make meaningful connections. Our philosophy is simple. We are your Third home. Whether you come solo or with friends, or if its your First or Third Rodeo, you’ll find our atmosphere relaxed, charming, and just a little bit cheeky! We’re all about bringing people together, and we’re thrilled to have hosted successful events in Naarm/Melbourne, Gadigal Land/Sydney, Magandjin/Brisbane, Boorloo/Perth and Kaurna Country/Adelaide. Many of my own beautiful queer friendships have blossomed from these gatherings, and I can’t wait for you to experience the same. I know it can be intimidating to show up alone, but trust me, you’re not alone in that feeling. Everyone is here for the same reason: to connect and find their community. You’ll quickly find that our crowd is warm, friendly, and welcoming! Thank you for supporting our Lesbian/Non-Binary led small business. Your encouragement means the world to us, and we adore each and every one of you. We can’t wait to see you at our next event! With pride, TR Tickets

Monthly Picnic & Party Games!

Sat 31 Oct, 10:30 AM AEST, 1 Parkland Blvd, Brisbane City, QL
We will meet at the tables in the picture shown above which are located near the big waterfall. I have some games but feel free to bring games of your own. However if you're not a gamer and would rather talk to the other attendees then feel free to do so. This is a very easy going casual event. If are having trouble finding a car park you can park in Queen Street Malls parks, it's a short walk away from the Parklands. Or take the train as the station is right next to the park. What we will do. After we've gotten to know one another we usually play some easy fun party games for a few hours. There are undercover areas in case of bad weather but if the weather is severe enough then we will instead play games at the Vault Games Brisbane store in the Queen Street Mall which is about a 10 minute walk away. Use Google Maps if you're unfamiliar with the area. If this does happen then I'll leave a comment in the events comment section on the day of the event. If you want to donate to the group to help cover Meetup costs you can but it's optional so you don't have to pay to attend any events. This event will usually be held on the last Saturday of every month. Find us on Facebook: Important note. If you RSVP as Going and then not show up or if you don't let the organiser know in the comments or via DM why you couldn't come then you will be removed from the group if you do this 3 times under the group's 3 strike rule.

Book Shop Hop + Cafe

Sat 7 Nov, 10:30 AM AEST, 193 Boundary Street, West End, Brisbane
This meetup will now take place Saturday 7th November (not Sunday 18th October) Event details: Calling all book lovers — let's spend a Sunday exploring some of Brisbane's independent bookshops! We'll meet at Avid Reader in West End and start with a browse before walking the very short distance to Bent Books, where we'll have more time to hunt through the shelves and see what we can find. From there, we'll make our way down to the river and catch the CityCat over to New Farm, making the journey part of the meetup rather than attempting some ridiculous cross-city hike. 😄 Once we're in New Farm, we'll head to Mary Ryan's Fine Books & Things for another browse before finding somewhere nearby for coffee and/or food. Running late or can't fund us? If you're arriving late or get separated from the group, check the comments on this meetup. I'll leave an update with our current location whenever we've moved on to the next bookshop or stopped somewhere for food/coffee. The exact CityCat departure and where we stop for food will be worked out on the day. When: Saturday 7th November 2026, 10:30am Starting point: Avid Reader, 193 Boundary Street, West End Then: Bent Books → CityCat → Mary Ryan's Fine Books & Things, New Farm → coffee/food Cost: Free meetup — please bring your own money for your CityCat fare, purchases and anything you eat or drink. Come along for one bookshop, all three, the river trip, or just the general excuse to spend a Sunday browsing books with good company. Personal disclaimer: I've run a number of meetups in the past (in Sydney) and attended many more (all over the world), and I have learned it best not to give anyone my phone number straight away. If you need help or are lost on the day, please use the comments section or send me a message using the meetup app. Also, I expect a level of common sense and independence of those attending these events. While I definitely want to be welcoming and help foster conversation, I won't be baby sitting anyone. At the end of the day, you need to be responsible for yourself - it's just a common courtesy so that everyone can have a good time. Thanks!
