For more than 70 years, The Jim Henson Company has delivered compelling stories and engaging world building that has captivated audiences for generations. By combining traditional puppetry arts with animatronics and real-time digital animation, the Company continues to be an unparallelled leader in the fields of practical and special effects-based performance for stage and screen. Presented as part of the Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company exhibition (12 September 2026 – 18 April 2027), Screened to be Believed: The Jim Henson Company showcases productions made by the Company that shine a light on the vast array of technical skills and artistry used to create unforgettable cinematic worlds. Building from strong foundations laid by the Company’s founders, The Jim Henson Company continues to foster a culture of innovation, experimentation and exploration to forge new pathways in performance-led family entertainment, making for some of the most memorable on-screen moments in cinematic history. QAGOMA acknowledges the generous assistance of the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, Canberra and the NBCUniversal Archives & Collections, Los Angeles in providing materials for this program. Program curated by Victoria Wareham, Australian Cinémathèque with additional film note writing by Rebekah Brammer.
