The bell rings again! Celebrate 50 years of one of cinema’s greatest underdog stories as Sylvester Stallone’s legendary Rocky returns to Palace for a special Cult Vault Anniversary screening, ahead of the highly anticipated release of I Play Rocky. Winner of three Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for John G. Avildsen, Rocky follows small-time Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa (Stallone), who gets the chance of a lifetime when he’s offered a shot at heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). With the odds stacked against him and everything to prove, Rocky embarks on a gruelling journey of determination, courage and self-belief, finding unexpected love with the shy Adrian (Talia Shire) and discovering that sometimes going the distance is the greatest victory of all. Five decades on, Rocky remains one of cinema’s most celebrated sports dramas, spawning a nine-film franchise and inspiring generations of audiences. From the original Balboa saga to the Creed films, revisit the Academy Award-winning classic that started it all, 50 years after Rocky first stepped into the ring.
