Ted Talks: What Sitting all Day does to your Brain & Body
Watch this at home before you join us. Can a five-minute walk change how you feel all day? Exercise scientist Keith Diaz shows how your body is built for the kind of movement that modern life has quietly erased — and suggests something refreshingly doable: making time for small doses of movement sprinkled throughout the day, as a way to boost your brain and body. As it is important for us to keep up to date with technology, this one is fascinating. Pauline will lead this interesting and fun discussion. Bring along an open mind and a sense of humour - $5 cash for non members. Cheers Chris [email protected]
QLD AI Hub Gold Coast – Deploying AI in Business: What Actually Works
Most businesses have now run an AI pilot. Far fewer have put one into daily use and kept it there. This session looks at the gap between the two: where AI is doing real work inside Queensland businesses today, what it took to get it there, and what the people who deployed it would do differently. Denver opens with what Zeligate has learned taking an AI co-worker into hiring teams, then a panel of operators who have deployed AI in their own businesses takes it from there. Join the Queensland AI Hub Gold Coast Chapter at Cohort Innovation Space on the 29th of October to learn more about how to get AI working for your business from leading operators.

Is Primitivism Powerful?
Note to Attendees: Please consider making a $5 donation to contribute to the running costs of this Meetup. For most of human history, people lived in tribal communities, closely connected to nature, tradition, and one another. Modern civilisation has brought extraordinary progress, but has something valuable been lost? Can we learn from the customs, beliefs, and social structures of tribal cultures, or do we risk romanticising ways of life often marked by hardship? At this Gold Coast meetup, we’ll explore the appeal of primitivism, the wisdom of traditional societies, and what they might teach us about the future. The questions we will address are: This event will be held at SOPO Brewing Co. on the Gold Coast. It is near CSi Club Southport. This is NOT to be confused with SOPO Southport (near the library). After the discussion, we’ll stay on for a meal and a drink together — a chance to continue the conversation in a more relaxed setting and support the venue. PLEASE NOTE: Please support the venue by purchasing a drink or meal during the event. This is intended to be a good-natured but robust discussion. Please be respectful and prepared to have your ideas challenged. If you are easily offended, this event may not be for you.

SecTalks Gold Coast 3×9 – Nov 2026 – The Rise and Fall of TeamPCP
TeamPCP is a financially motivated cybercrime group that emerged in late 2025 and became one of the most prolific actors targeting the open-source software supply chain. The group specializes in compromising developer accounts, GitHub repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and package-publishing infrastructure to inject credential-stealing malware into legitimate npm and PyPI packages. During 2026, TeamPCP dramatically scaled its operations through Mini Shai-Hulud, a self-propagating supply-chain worm that steals GitHub, package-registry, cloud, and developer credentials and then uses that access to compromise additional projects, creating cascading infections. Its campaigns have affected hundreds of packages and prominent developer and security tooling, while the group has also engaged in data theft, extortion, cryptocurrency theft, partnerships with other cybercriminal groups, and eventually released its own malware source code to encourage further supply-chain compromises. This talk will dive into what made TeamPCP such a powerful milestone in the history of software supply chain attacks. Paul will share details about the case that have never been published before, as well as his own case notes and tracking. Drinks are provided by our sponsor, Solis, and pizza is provided by Cyber Audit Team. As usual, our venue is sponsored by COHORT. GC SecTalks maintains a strict Code of Conduct.
SecTalks Gold Coast Nov 2026 - Brotlipocalypse: The Bug Hiding in Plain Sight
Title: Brotlipocalypse: The Bug Hiding in Plain Sight - speaker Paul McCarty CVE-2026-111497 is a great example of how a simple vulnerability can become a surprisingly difficult software supply chain problem. In this talk, we'll walk through the vulnerable Brotli source code, break down the bug in plain English, and show why it's remarkably easy to understand once you know where to look. Then comes the hard part: finding it in the wild. Brotli is everywhere, but it isn't always installed as a library or tracked as a package dependency. Developers frequently vendor the source code directly into their projects, making traditional dependency scanners and SBOMs potentially blind to vulnerable copies. We'll explore real-world examples, examine why conventional vulnerability detection falls short, and discuss practical techniques for hunting down vulnerable code across the open-source ecosystem. The takeaway: Finding a vulnerability in source code is one thing. Finding every copy of that code is an entirely different challenge. Drinks are provided by our sponsor, Solis, and pizza is provided by Cyber Audit Team. As usual, our venue is sponsored by COHORT. GC SecTalks maintains a strict Code of Conduct.
