The Butterfly Collectors is a recording project from two seasoned musicians who share an appreciation for the Richmond Birdwing, cathartic songwriting, and flying somewhat under the radar. The artists behind the Butterfly Collectors (who have been jokingly referring to themselves as Luna Bell and Humphrey Dunlop) are songwriters Anthony Dettori (vocals, keys, guitars) and Scott Lapthorne (drums, percussion). Dettori and Lapthorne created this project in the early 2000s to serve as their own private jam, enduring while they performed together in other bands across their entire adult lives. Their rich history of successful collaboration has seen them perform and record with Shutterspeed, The Sunburys, and more recently, Lontano. All this time, they've been quietly evolving a wordless musical symbiosis that runs on considered craftsmanship and reflection, laced with incandescent swagger and wit. And, of course, they've also been gathering up tales that only they can tell. Now, their butterfly net runneth over with a lush catalogue of stories about frailty, strength, love and survival. So lately, they’ve preserved some specimens in vinyl, and this November, they'll be releasing them back into the wild. The Butterfly Collectors launch their long-awaited debut album, 'Words Come Cheap' on Saturday 7 November (at 2pm) at Brisbane’s Cave Inn. Keeping things in la famiglia, The Butterfly Collectors will be supported by Lontano and The Sunburys. And in the opening slot, they are delighted to present young Rory McKenna (of the family who brought you Those Bloody McKennas). One to watch. Ticketing packages that include a copy of the record (on vinyl or CD) are available – these are your best value options for both entry and the album. All ages welcome, under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
