Remembrance Sunday (8 November 2026) is the Sunday nearest to Armistice Day (11 November, commemorating the end of WWI). In the UK and throughout the Commonwealth of Nations (of which Australia and New Zealand are founder members) it is kept as a day of remembrance for all armed forces personnel and also civilians who have died in warfare: in the two World Wars of the 20th century and subsequent and ongoing conflicts since. In Australia and New Zealand ANZAC Day in April is the particular focus of the remembrance of Australians and New Zealanders who served, or still serve, in the Armed Forces of our two nations. Remembrance Sunday in November, however, is an opportunity to connect our remembrances with those of the wider world: the UK, Canada, Tonga, PNG, Solomon Islands, Malaysia, India, etc, and throughout the Commonwealth. This traditional British-style Remembrance Day service, with Holy Trinity's professional choir singing the Requiem by Gabriel Faure, honours all British & Commonwealth victims of warfare and offers prayers for peace in our war-torn world. The service is followed by a light buffet lunch on the lawn (or indoors depending on the weather). Uniforms may be worn. Medals may be worn. If you possess medals of parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents who served, these may be worn by you on your right breast. Poppies and rosemary are also suitable as buttonholes on Remembrance Sunday. We particularly welcome British citizens who have made their home here in Brisbane and wish to honour the UK service men and women who have served their country in time of war. We hope you can stay for brunch. If so, please register here for catering purposes.
