Opera Queensland and Queensland Theatre Company present Into the Woods. Be careful what you wish for. Four decades since its Broadway premiere, Into the Woods has established itself as a beloved musical classic. In 2026, Opera Queensland, Queensland Theatre Company and Queensland Symphony Orchestra collaborate to bring a new production of this Tony Award-winning masterpiece to QPAC’s sparkling Glasshouse Theatre. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, Into the Woods follows iconic and well-loved characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and Rapunzel. In a world where fairy tales collide, this timeless musical asks what happens when the story ends and “… everyone lives happily ever after”. When deepest desires are fulfilled, not all wishes are granted without a cost… Into the Woods dazzles with its unforgettable score, cast of dearly loved characters and a plot that refuses to play by the rules. Photography is by Glenn Hunt, and artwork and design by Murray Summerville. The cast is Amy Lehpamer as Baker’s Wife, Nina Korbe as Cinderella, Hayley Sugars as Cinderella Stepmother, Ali McGregor as Witch, Carla Beard as Little Red Riding Hood, Kanen Breen as Narrator, Mystery Man and Cinderella’s Father, Marcus Corowa as Rapunzel’s Prince, Angus Grant as Steward, Ensemble and Swing (Baker, Princes, Wolf), and Gabrielle Diaz as Lucinda, Ensemble and Swing (Cinderella, Rapunzel). The creative team is Patrick Nolan as Director, James Dobinson as Conductor and Musical Director, Elizabeth Gadsby and Charles Davies as Co-Set and Costume Designers, with Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim and the book by James Lapine. Originally directed on Broadway by James Lapine, with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. Licensed exclusively by Music Theatre International (Australasia). In exciting news, Into the Woods will travel to Toowoomba’s iconic Empire Theatre for two special performances this December, following its Brisbane run. Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, including interval, subject to change without notice.
