Our meetings include brief business, a main presentation and items of astronomical news or activities from members. The Main Item talk is titled Weather whether or not to go out and observe tonight? by Terry Cuttle, Chris Stockdale, and Joe Cali. Forecasting weather has long been the bugbear of amateur astronomers world-wide. Not only is this a difficult task but government meteorology organisations concentrate their most detailed forecasts for light polluted populated areas not dark remote locations favoured by amateur astronomers. In this talk, experienced observers, eclipse chasers, and DIY weather forecasters, Terry Cuttle, Chris Stockdale, and Joe Cali will describe some of the basics of self-serve weather forecasting, the excellent resources available to present day astronomers, and how they use those resources to serve their own particular needs. Chris and Joe will concentrate on forecasting for their homes in remote dark rural communities while Terry will talk about how he uses forecasting tools to find a hole in the clouds while travelling when he's chasing solar and lunar eclipses or comet apparitions. The November 2026 meeting is planned to be a face-to-face meeting; attendees can also join in online via Zoom. Details emailed to members. Visitors are welcome to join our free face-to-face or online meetings.
