November's BrisJS event is here; so dust off those RSVPs, and read on to check out two great talks to kick off your month! (Hey prospective speaker volunteers! - You are incredible and I need to see you volunteering any kind of talk for our 2027 events (Don't forget Dec 2026!) - make it the year you take the stage!) Enjoy our sponsored pizza and drinks by PCCW Global | Console Connect, while networking with your peers, as is standard at our famous events! Thanks to Auto & General for hosting us and providing all the AV gear and people power! We'd love for you to join us and bring along your questions! Let's dive into the details below. ⏱ Schedule: 6:15 PM - Arrive & mingle - To enter the Toowong corporate tower wait at Gallery Level (GL) elevators next to Catch Wonderland for A&G staff volunteers to let you up (GL elevators are the same level and closest to the entrance coming from the Toowong Railway Station in the centre) - Map uploaded to event photos and an older one is available on - Please note, once we start, I don't have a good way to check messages since my phone is used for recordings. 6:30 PM - Welcome & introductions by Kevin Vanderbeken 6:45 PM - Talks begin… 🔐 You Shall Not Pass! (Unless You Have a Token) - Jason Sultana (jason.sultana.net.au / LinkedIn) - 20min Ever wondered how apps can access your data without needing your password? This talk will be a practical introduction to (or refresher on) OAuth and OpenID Connect, where we'll demystify tokens, explore how authorisation works, and uncover common security pitfalls. Whether you're new to OAuth or looking to brush up on the fundamentals, you'll leave with a better understanding of who gets access to what - and why. You shall not pass… without the right token! ⏱ Intermission - Networking / Food ~7:05pm - 25-30min 📊 Tame Your SVGs with JavaScript (Part 2) - Murray Bourne (Bluesky) - 30min This talk follows on from Part 1, which was presented in May 2026. This time, we'll see how to create truly responsive SVG charts using various examples. We'll also look at how to optimise your SVGs so they load faster and produce smoother animations. Finally, we'll cover some options for taming SVG text, including how best to add HTML text to an SVG. ⏱ Closing - Safe trip home folks! ❓ Why not volunteer to speak next time? We're taking talks anytime! for details. or.
