When dinner is not the only thing brought to the table. On a dreary Brisbane evening, Brett and Katelynn King arrive at Pitt and Sabina’s inner-city apartment for a routine weekend dinner. Brett and Pitt have been mates since university, but the lives they’ve built now sit worlds apart. Their partners, Sabina and Katelynn, hold opposing views, yet find themselves drawn into each other’s orbit. Pitt and Sabina pride themselves on questioning the rules: progressive, independent, determined to live life on their own terms. Brett and Katelynn have found comfort in the things their friends resist: parenthood, stability and a future with a clear shape. Over dinner, the wine flows, old jokes land differently and small disagreements begin to sharpen. Conversation turns to politics, privilege and lifestyle choices, and long-held beliefs start circling the table. Beneath it all sits the shadow of a recent moment, something unresolved, something none of them can quite leave behind. As the evening wears on, the civility begins to crack. Loyalties are tested, blood is shed, and the storm arrives. Darkly funny and razor-sharp, Lucky is a bruising contemporary dinner table drama about friendship, ideology, conviction, and the cost of certainty.
