Byron Seniors Club: Elder Beats Drumming

“The seniors that attend this amazing session are some of the most vibrant energetic characters of their age on the planet.” – Gareth Jones, Sound Synergy. The Byron Bay Elder Beats program was founded in 2013. What began as an idea for a Healthy Ageing initiative hosted at the Byron Community Centre, featuring Sound Synergy Drumming, quickly evolved into one of Australia's most thriving seniors programs. This inclusive group warmly welcomes newcomers every week. Elder Beats invites seniors of all backgrounds to explore the world of African drumming, with sessions tailored to accommodate all skill levels. Beyond the physical health advantages, participation in this program also fosters mental stimulation and elevates the energy levels of all attendees. It serves as an excellent opportunity for social interaction within a delightfully enjoyable environment. Bookings are required. Book one session or multiple sessions. For help, call (02) 6685 6807, Monday to Friday, 10am – 4pm. The sessions are led by Gareth Jones, founder of Sound Synergy. Gareth played, performed, and honed his love for drumming during a 10-year stint living in South Africa. It was here he was mentored by Zulu elders, performers, and musicians within the country, as well as travel stints to Ghana to study with master drummers. He has now been teaching and performing his sessions professionally for the past 20 years. Sound Synergy 0449 923 114.
